Happy Spring Skiing to All!
You are AWESOME! We are thankful to you for your support and belief in Oak Hill Outdoor Center and for such a great season. On the day of this writing, with great efforts by Mother Nature and the Snowmaking crew, we are at 110 days of skiing on the Oak Hill trails this season and a few more to come!
As spring will inevitably draw the season to a close, it is time for our End of Season Survey - we appreciate your taking the time to provide us feedback. This feedback is important to us and helps direct our work over the coming year. We heard your comments last season and, with your support and, in many cases, volunteer help, took a number of steps to respond:
The Stadium access was muddy and slippery so we built a stairway to the stadium and put gravel (and more snow) on the Lodge ramp
The Ray School connecting trail from Oak HIll to Garipay was difficult. We re- routed the steep hill to the school to make it easier to ski.
“Passes should be checked to prevent unpaid usage.” The board and staff implemented a number of “Pass Audit” days to check passes and understand the level of compliance. There was a VERY small number of folks skiing without passes - primarily at the Golf Course. Additional signage was added throughout the season.
Port-a-potties were increased in number and maintenance.
Trail maintenance and improvements were made on the Top of Oak 10k resulting in some of the best skiing up there in many years as described by longtime users.
There are continued efforts to provide the best possible grooming on a daily basis. Sometimes Mother Nature has different ideas and we have to adjust accordingly. We focus on the long term health of the snow conditions which sometimes means that we have to wait out a weather pattern before getting it straightened out. Hopefully we are getting it right a large portion of the time.
A small selection of snacks, wax, and hats were added to the Welcome Center.
On busy days, additional parking was available at Storrs Pond.
The new Lodge was open from 8 am to 8 pm.
Additional signage was added during “Whale” migration.
Additional loaner boots and skis were added. Thank you Killington World Cup Foundation!
For the beginners, we added an easier trail out of the south east end of the Stadium to provide a nice loop for learning to ski.
For summer fun - a Mountain Bike Flow Trail, Skills Park, and Pump Track were built and used quite extensively!
Hopefully these efforts and others helped make your experience at Oak Hill more enjoyable.
We would love to hear your thoughts on how we can continue to improve the Oak HIll Outdoor Center. Follow this link to our survey Today, Thank You!!
With Love and Appreciation, Mike, Korry and the Oak Hill Board
