Friends of Oak Hill Newsletter – March 2025
Time for an FOOH newsletter, as we hope you’ve been enjoying the weekly “Snow Happenings” updates. With the NCAA National Championships coming up week of March 3rd, a full-throated newsletter seems warranted.
Before we get to the upcoming races, a review of recent press may whet your appetite. A Valley News article over the past weekend highlighted the success of the Dartmouth ski team at this year’s carnival races. That was followed by an article in Faster Skier that recounts some of the history of Oak Hill, as well as the recent work that has transformed the venue into one of the top race and recreational courses in the East.
The NCAA Championships will kick off with an opening ceremony on Tuesday evening March 4th, followed by alpine races at the Skiway on Wednesday and Friday, and nordic races at Oak Hill on Thursday and Saturday, March 6 and 8. The Dartmouth sports news site covers the upcoming events, links to the live video feed, race schedules and parking directions. Be sure to check out the site if you are interested in watching any of the races. Shuttles will be running from the Dewey Lot and Garipay to the race venues.
We hope that you have been enjoying the Silver Fox Trail all season. The snow gods have smiled over the past two weeks and conditions on Garipay and the old golf course are great, too. Even the top of Oak has plenty of cover and buffed out very nicely considering the amount of debris blown around in the latest wind blast.
We’ve all been watching Welly Ramsey work his carpentry magic on the Oak Hill Lodge (we used to call it a “warming hut” but it’s far too nice to be called a hut). We expect it to be open and operational during the NCAA weekend. Come check it out!
As always, visit our website for more information on trail conditions, weather, and events. We hope to see you this week.
